Once upon a multiverse…

There are two parallel origin stories to RezzConPop with the first being an event to bring families together.

We observed that fans of all ages will dress up and attend a convention. From grandparents in cosplay to their grandchildren. It brought people together and there’s no judgement in a room full of comic characters. We wanted to duplicate that feeling of creativity and acceptance. It was also important that we celebrate the arts within all of us.

The second origin story comes from a place of sorrow. Our Indigenous communities continue to face the trauma of addiction and suicide, we needed a way to inspire HOPE to heal.

When Stan Lee first started creating his iconic heroes, it was simply to inspire hope. He took a man or woman, riddled with a traumatic past destined to save humanity. It was as if he was writing for those of us who lived within the pages of a dark origin story. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby are a few of our personal heroes because they showed us how to overcome. They also helped us to accept our flaws through the shortcomings of our superheroes since their flaws became their power.

Our flaws become our power.

Our solution was to create an event that promotes happiness and wellness without feeling like a mundane health fair. After all we’re trying to bring in the youth.

Our heart space is to promote mental wellness.

  1. We feel accepted, just the way we are.

  2. We are able to accept others.

  3. We know we’re not alone and feel supported.

These are all the elements that make a comic/pop/anime convention so much fun. Hanging out with like minded people who cosplay and “get into character” can really boost one’s self esteem.
